Behind the Image

Inspiration

My personal practice has been deeply influenced by the work of Stephen Shore, particularly his ability to transform the mundane into something extraordinary. Shore’s focus on everyday life resonates with my own creative interests. He demonstrates that beauty and meaning can be found in the simplest moments, and his approach has inspired me to document the world around me with the same curiosity and attention to detail.

This influence is evident in my current photographic practice, where I strive to capture the quiet, often-overlooked elements of daily life. Like Shore, I aim to highlight the significance of the ordinary, creating work that invites viewers to pause and reflect on the beauty of the seemingly unremarkable.

Choice of Medium: Polaroids

For this presentation, I chose to use Polaroids as visual aids instead of relying on a digital PowerPoint. This decision reflects my deep connection to the medium. Polaroids offer a sense of immediacy and tangibility that I find liberating compared to digital and analogue photography.

What excites me about Polaroids is their ability to capture moments in a raw, unfiltered way. Each Polaroid feels like a unique artifact, reflecting not only the subject but also the process behind its creation. This tactile nature resonates with my desire to experiment and express myself freely.

Working with Polaroids has allowed me to explore themes of imperfection and spontaneity, qualities that align with my focus on documenting everyday life. They have become an essential part of my practice, enabling me to develop a distinct voice as a photographer.

Personal Practice

My current photographic practice revolves around exploring the mundane and capturing the essence of ordinary moments. I gravitate towards subjects that might otherwise go unnoticed—objects, places, or scenes that tell quiet stories about human experience.

Using Polaroids, I have been able to experiment with composition, color, and texture in ways that feel organic and intuitive. This process has taught me to appreciate the unpredictability of the medium and embrace imperfections as part of the creative journey.
